I hear about the benefits of coconut oil from my Indian friends — they use straight coconut oil as a moisturizer. It smooths the rough patches, and on babies it helps with diaper rash. So, as any hardworking small business owner would do, I conducted an experiment to test the benefits of coconut oil…on myself. I put a tiny bit on my left elbow every morning and rubbed it in. Never my right elbow. Only once/day. Within 2 weeks, I could feel the change: my left elbow was definitely softer than my right. The left has no dry skin, and the right elbow is noticeably rougher!
Virgin coconut oil for natural skin care
I have seen brands of “coconut moisturizer” on the market. So far, reading the labels, the coconut is a very small percentage of a long list of ingredients…in some brands these ingredients are chemicals. Let’s focus on the word ‘natural’ as we discover the benefits of virgin coconut oil for natural skin care. After this completely non-scientific experiment, I’m inclined to keep two jars of coconut oil around: a big one in the kitchen, and a small one in the bathroom.
